Toltrazuril is used to treat EPM (equine protozoal myeloencephalitis), a potentially serious disease of horses in the Americas which causes a multitude of effects that manifest in a variety of symptoms. As a treatment for coccidiosis in horses, toltrazuril works by damaging the intracellular developmental stages of coccidia without damaging the cell tissue of the host animal. It is also used as a prophylaxis to prevent coccidian in horses.
