Toltrazuril works by damaging the intracellular developmental stages of coccidia without damaging the cell tissue of the host animal. Pyrimethamine is typically used by veterinarians along with antibiotics in the treatment of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis. The combination of drugs is effective in blocking the process of metabolism of the protozoa and a step in the protazoa's folic acid synthesis. Toltrazuril 416 mg/ml / Pyrimethamine 17 mg/ml paste by NexGen is highly effective in treating horses with EPM and other coccidial infections.
