Dexamethasone is a synthetic analogue of prednisolone that has similar but more potent anti-inflammatory therapeutic action and diversified hormonal and metabolic effects. The SP formulation (dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection, USP, 4 mg/mL, equivalent to 3 mg/mL dexamethasone) allows for administration of relatively large doses in a small volume of diluent because it is highly water-soluble. It is indicated as a rapid adrenal glucocorticoid and/or anti-inflammatory agent in horses. Administer IV only.
